Rio was funny, lovable and a rats worse nightmare. she always made us smile and we miss her so much. if Rio could make you a cup of tea she woud have done. she always the first to welcome a visitor. from the first day we brought her home she cuddled up just at the side of you, loved all the attention she got from us. a day never went by without a cuddle or usual welcome of throwing herself on the rug and showing you her belly when we got home from work. Rio always followed us to the shops funny how she always ran in front but she knew when you had stopped and she would wait for you to catch her up.i miss the warm feelng of when she would curl up right at the side of me in bed and when morning came and the clock went off she would be licking your head to wake you up. RIP sweet girl.
A couple of weeks before Rio died we noticed she was drinking a lot of water. At the time we never thought to much about it as she always liked to drink anyway, this thirst increased and i left work early to take her to the vets presuming she was diabetic, it turned out she had polysistic kidney disease a condition she probably had since birth. when she was born she had little tiny cists in her kidneys and as she grew they got bigger, the vet said that it was only a matter of time till she died, there was hardly any normal kidney tissue left. we brought her home for one last night and took her to the vets the next morning. we both held her in our arms as she went to sleep for the final time. saying goodbye was the hardest thing we have ever had to do.

As baby rio went to sleep,
Remember she was never really ours to keep.
she was sent to us from god above,
to fill our lives with love.
Her cuddles,her mischief, her special way,
those memories are ours to stay.
So dont be sad when you think of her, that baby girl with the gorgeous purr.
Shes gone back home to god above,
shes safe and well after filling our lives with love.
we held her in our arms as we said goodbye,
she said "dont worry mum and dad please dont cry"
"ill always look down from the sky above, watching you miss me,i know i was loved".
so when you feel a little breeze floating past your ear.

A Pets Prayer
If it should be, that I grow frail and weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then, you must do what must be done
For this, the last battle, can't be won.
Don't let your grief stay your hand,
For this day more than the rest,
Your love and friendship stand the test.
We've had so many years,
What is to come can hold no fear.

The agony is so great...

Hey there beautiful Rio, Your mum and me went over to Ireland a couple of weeks ago and on the way home we stood on the top of the ferry and it was soooo dark but a lovely clear night. We looked up to the sky and we saw your star, twinkling away so brightly. We love and miss you so very much sweet girl. All our love Dad,Mum, Ole, Becksy and Sparky May xxxx

i came across you by accident but you look like my cat aspen and when i read how you died its amazing because aspen died with the same illness he also had a serious heart problem the vet said he would die by his fourth birthday but he lived until his tenth birthday its so hard when a beloved pet dies play with my aspen up above rio god bless xx passerby

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
